Long Sage Silk Chain with Vintage Jade, Antique Glass and Handmade Silver
- The handmade sage coloured silk/polyester chain, on which my silver label is attached, carries a number of elements.
- The vintage, celadon jade pendant (2 ¼” in diameter,(6 cm) is deeply carved showing what appears to be a mermaid sitting within a Bi disc (symbol of long life and harmony). This being was the most influential goddess of the sea in China, known as Mazu. She was at the centre of many beliefs and customs, including oral traditions, religious ceremonies and folk practices, throughout the China’s coastal areas.
- A sea green hand-blown antique glass bead (15mm) from Thailand sits above the pendant which is then topped by
- An antique carved jade barrel (21 mm), in a sage tone
- This is followed by a hand-crafted, fair trade, sterling silver bead (16 mm) made by the Karen hill tribes in Thailand, using 98% pure silver. It is deeply grooved in a swirl-like design.
- The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
- The handmade silk/ polyester chain measures 13 ½” (34 cm) long, from the top of the chain onto the various elements, with a 4”(10 cm) element/pendant drop
