Knock Out Amber & Jade Necklace, with Huge Agate & Hand-Woven Silver
- This is an unforgettable necklace, and yes, knock out to wear. Golds and caramels, black and white striated agate, bold handmade, woven silver, and honey toned antique jade, all larger-than-life beads. Let me explain.
- Of course, the free-form triangle pendant of gorgeous, golden amber is a stunner. It is partly transparent, partly cloudy, and measures 1 ¾” high (4.5cm) x 1 ½” wide (3.5cm) x 17mm deep. For me, it is a memorable piece, in itself.
- Flanking the amber, along with smaller perforated silver discs, are two large (28mm), striated agate beads in black, grey, tan and white. Monumental in themselves.
- These are followed by superb, large (29mmx 31mm), woven silver beads (now rare) made by the Karen hill tribes in Thailand.
- Separating the silver, discs of onyx (23mm) are followed by two antique, honey-coloured, jade beads (19mm) carved in a swirl design.
- Two further, Karen hill tribe, handmade, sterling silver beads (26mm), in a hammered silver design, are light but substantial. Karen hill tribe silver is pure, 98% silver, and has been made by hand, each a unique bit of sculpture and craftsmanship.
- Slivers of whisky and gold amber lead to mat onyx beads (18mm), more slivers of amber, and finally, small, mat, onyx beads (9mm).
- I have used a handmade sterling silver toggle clasp. Toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
- The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour coordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
- The necklace measures 18 ½” (47cm) long with a pendant drop of 2” (5cm).
