- This delightful, vintage brass monkey with his arms outstretched, as if holding onto a branch is made by the Miao people in China. He measures 1 ½” long (4 cm).
- The Miao are a group of linguistically related peoples living in Southern China and Southeast Asia, who are recognized by the government of China as one of the 56 official ethnic groups. The Miao live primarily in the mountains of southern China. These are a people who would have been familiar with monkeys living in the forests.
- Above the monkey hang vermeil beads and in the centre of these beads hangs an elaborate, antique, English Victorian, brass escutcheon, 1 ½” (4 cm) in diameter which would have surrounded a lock.
- And lastly, an exquisite hand-blown Venetian blue and gold glass bead (18 mm) matches the sky blue of the silk chain.
- The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
- The necklace measurers measures from top to bottom of the chain, 14” (35.5cm), with the added other elements, 4 ¾” long (11.5 cm).My silver name label is attached to the chain.
