  • Striking and simple…who can lose with red and black?

  • Hanging on a hand-knotted black cord band, made of silk and polyester, is a natural red, sponge coral Bi disc measuring 4 cm across and 9 mm deep, supported by more natural red, sponge coral beads (6 mm).

  • The Bi disc in Asia, is a symbol of harmony and long life, which means, the wearer takes on these wonderful attributes.

  • The beads feed into a large, handmade, sterling silver bead (18.9 mm) made by the Karen hill tribes in Thailand. It has been deeply embossed in a swirl pattern.

  • Karen hill tribe Fair Trade silver is nearly 98% pure silver. I mostly choose to use their silver because each piece is like a miniature bit of sculpture, individually crafted and created. I know that artisans in Northern Thailand produce this unique silversmithing in small villages, involving whole families in the process. Their work is fairly paid, and as a result, their beads are much more expensive. But a family is supported and wonderful beads and jewellery are produced in high quality silver.

  • A red jasper cylinder bead (11 mm) sits on top of the silver bead.

  • The necklace is fastened by strong cord loops which fits securely over a large cord button knot. My silver name label is attached at the loops.

  • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

  • Length 44 cm with a 7.5 cm pendant drop.
