  • As if flying under an azure blue sky, this active looking sterling silver sea gull has been made by the popular, Scottish silversmith, Ola Gorie. It is clearly marked with her name on the backside of the bird. Gorie is known for creating lively birds in sterling silver jewellery.

  • She was born in 1937 and is one of the founders of the modern craft movement in Scotland.

  • This particular sea gull, looks as if he might swoop down to the sea to scoop up a fish. It is 5 cm long, 15 mm high and 2 mm deep.

  • The azure sky is made up of flat bricks of natural kyanite (8 mm x 14.5 mm), interspersed with sterling silver beads (4 mm) and two brushed silver beads (6.5 mm) at the end of the necklace.

  • Kyanite is a typically teal blue silicate mineral, found in aluminium-rich sedimentary rock. It has a variegated colouring of blues, with a slight sheen from the silicate within the stone.

  • A silver toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.

  • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

  • Length 42 cm with a 15 mm pendant drop.
