Antique Tibetan Resin Pendant on Natural Agate, Tibetan Brass and Antique Gold Leafed Wood

  • Full of texture and punch, this is a necklace of huge interest.

  • The large, antique Tibetan resin Bi disc, a symbol of harmony and long life, is full of lustre, patina and wonderful shape. It is not completely round. The old technique in Tibet, mixed resin with amber dust to create these rich, large beads, usually used for prayers, although also enjoyed as personal adornment. Pure amber in itself was enormously expensive. The pendant, although large, is light in weight. It measures 3 inches diameter (7.5 cm) and 22 mm deep.

  • It hangs on handmade, heshi brass beads from Africa, on a necklace of varied elements.

  • At the centre of the necklace, as well as further along, there are handmade, embossed, vintage brass beads (15 mm and 24 mm) from Tibet. Towards the back of the necklace, there are two rectangular, cylinder beads (27 mm x 17 mm), which are also highly embossed Tibetan brass.

  • There are four natural agate beads (20mm), deeply patterned in rich russets and burnt orange tones.

  • Four antique Tibetan, resin discs (21 mm) surround the antique, carved wood beads, embellished with gold leaf. These are Buddhist prayer beads, also from Tibet.

  • Towards the back of the necklace, there are smaller, natural jasper discs (16 mm).

  • These are followed by two, handmade, bullet-shaped beads (22mm x 13mm) from Nepal, made of brass and inlaid with coral and turquoise.

  • A 14ct gold vermeil toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.

  • The necklaces come, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

  • The necklace is 17 ½ inches long (44.5 cm) with a 2 ¾ inch pendant drop (7 cm).
