  • Calcified Nephrite Jade, and a Gold Jadeite Bead all Hang on a Silk Chain

  • On a handmade mint silk/ polyester chain hang an array of interesting elements, creating a rather cool, intriguing effect.

  • First there is the antique Chinese natural turquoise Bi disc (1¼ inches across or 3cm).  It’s a lovely pastel blue with veins running throughout, which create an appealing pattern.  This is indeed a charming bit of old turquoise.  The Bi disc is a symbol of harmony and longevity, always considered important in Chinese culture.

  • Above it, horizontally placed, is a carved basket-weave bar, made of bone ( 9 mm by 1 ½  inches across, or 4 cm).

  • This is then followed by the carved turquoise coloured pig, made of howlite, but dyed to resemble turquoise.  He is 21 mm long by 12 mm.  The pig is a symbol of intelligence and prosperity because he represents hard work and honesty.  A pig, like a boar, is considered feisty.  It therefore represents a determination to fight back.

  • This is followed by an antique calcified, natural nephrite jade trapezoid shaped piece, (17 mm by 13 mm).

  • And finally there is a natural, sandy gold jadeite bead (9 mm).

  • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with it's own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

  • The necklace is 17 ½ inches long (44 cm).
