    • Originally this was a quintessentially Victorian brooch. It has now been changed to a slide, which accommodates eleven strands of natural turquoise, garnet and pearl.
    • This very baroque, scrolled Victorian piece is in 9K gold, inlaid with 3 good sized natural garnets, measures 3 cm long x 2 cm wide.

    • The strands are brought together with two vintage, etched, handmade Afghan beads (15.7 mm). These are 18K gold, on silver, on hardened resin, a traditional, ancient, Afghan technique.
    • I have used a vermeil toggle clasp. Toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.

    • As if flying under an azure blue sky, this active looking sterling silver sea gull has been made by the popular, Scottish silversmith, Ola Gorie. It is clearly marked with her name on the backside of the bird. Gorie is known for creating lively birds in sterling silver jewellery.
    • She was born in 1937 and is one of the founders of the modern craft movement in Scotland.
    • This particular sea gull, looks as if he might swoop down to the sea to scoop up a fish. It is 5 cm long, 15 mm high and 2 mm deep.
    • The azure sky is made up of flat bricks of natural kyanite (8 mm x 14.5 mm), interspersed with sterling silver beads (4 mm) and two brushed silver beads (6.5 mm) at the end of the necklace.
    • Kyanite is a typically teal blue silicate mineral, found in aluminium-rich sedimentary rock. It has a variegated colouring of blues, with a slight sheen from the silicate within the stone.

    • Having made this necklace before, with three strands, I thought it might be well to make a somewhat lighter necklace, still capturing the wow factor of these colours and stones. Of course it is not the same necklace as the three strand necklace, because all the beads are different. But it is still a head turner.
    • Because it is confusing to see so many types of stones, I have listed the various stones and their sizes in order to keep you informed on the necklace’s composition. It is a tedious read, but so many sites fail to give this information, which means, the customer is left in the dark as to what a necklace is made of. At least you will know.
    • On the longer strand, starting on the left side of the necklace as you look at it, there are:
    • Carved magnesite turquoise (17 mm); chrysoprase nugget (14 mm); turquoise pebble (19.5 mm); faceted chrysprase (16.5 mm); chrysocolla bead (19 mm); rectangle of turquoise howlite (18.6 mm); howlite carved pumpkin bead (19.6 mm); chrysoprase nugget (21mm); turquoise pebble (21.5 mm); chrysocolla bead (19 mm); chrysoprase disc bead (15.6 mm); carved turquoise magnesite bead (16.5 mm); chrysoprase nugget (19.5 mm); turquoise magnesite carved barrel (17.5 mm); chrysoprase nugget (13.5 mm); and turquoise(10.9 mm)
    • The second strand consists of: Chrysoprase nugget (14 mm); carved turquoise bead (15.8 mm); chrysoprase nugget (16 mm); chrysocolla bead (19 mm); carved turquoise magnesite barrel (17.5 mm); chysocolla mellon bead (19.8 mm); chrysoprase nugget (16 mm); turquoise pebble (21.9 mm); turquoise magnesite barrel (19.8 mm); chrysoprase nugget (21.6 mm); chrysocolla bead (19 mm); carved turquoise bead (18 mm); carved howlite pumpkin bead (19.6 mm); carved. Turquoise magnesite barrel (13.8 mm); and faceted chrysoprase nugget (13.5 mmm).
    • Both strands feed in rhodium silver beads from South Korea (17 mm).
    • A silver toggle clasp has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

    • Turquoise is always flattering, at any time of year. These particular, natural turquoise slices are a brilliant turquoise colour…quite frankly, the best turquoise in quality. Each slice varies in shape and size, but roughly, they measure 3 cm wide, 2.5 cm high and 5 mm in depth.
    • I have combined these wonderful pieces of turquoise with three very special, vintage vermeil panels, made in Afghanistan. The outer two have been etched with butterfly. Tiny turquoise beads have been inlaid into the butterfly’s wings. Tiny translucent, carnelian beads have also been inlaid onto all four corners of each panel.
    • In the centre of the central panel, there are two oval cabochons of turquoise. But the central panel has also been enhanced by ten, tiny translucent carnelian beads. These panels have also been etched, and made with delicate coils. Each panel is 2.5 cm long, 12.5 mm high and 5 mm in depth.
    • Two 18K gold on hardened wax beads (13.8 mm) enrich the necklace. These are rare beads, made in Afghanistan using the ancient techniques, learned from the Greeks who occupied Afghanistan in 330 BC.
    • Ten vermeil beads (5.5 mm) are used as spacers to ensure the elements hang well.
    • At the end of the necklace, there are two carved turquoise beads (9 mm).
    • The clasp is a 14K gold toggle clasp. I prefer using toggle clasps because they are easy to use and quite secure. My silver name label is attached to at the clasp.
    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

Vintage Tibetan Turquoise Pendant with Sterling Silver Monkey, Coral and Jasper on Turquoise Silk Chain

    • The vintage, Tibetan pendant has been crafted using Tibetan turquoise and decorated with a Silver monkey, set with a coral bead. The decorative etching is quite detailed and the silver continues to form a wide ring on which the pendant hangs.
    • In Buddhism, a monkey was alleged to have accompanied a monk, tasked with bringing sacred Buddhist texts from India to China. The monkey was chosen among all the animals because of its intelligence and courage.
    • Sterling silver beads (5 mm) and a vintage, handmade Afghan silver on hardened resin bead (14.5 mm x 9 mm) top the pendant, along with a jasper bead (5 mm x 10 mm).
    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.

Vintage Nephrite Jade Dragon on Multi Strands of Natural Chrysocolla and Sterling Silver Necklace

    • For a blast of turquoise, which can be so flattering to the face, a kind of wake-up call, this necklace does the job.
    • Three strands of polished, rough cut chrysocolla nuggets form the background of the necklace. The size of the nuggets vary, as does the colour and patination, which is true to the natural stone. The size ranges from 41 mm x 25 mm, down to 16 mm x 11 mm.
    • All three chunky strands are embraced by natural turquoise beads (8 mm), which holds the wonderful, vintage, calcified, nephrite jade dragon. He is coiled around himself, like a cat chasing its tail. Deep, incised decoration, which is repeated on the flip side of the pendant, displays his eyes and a kind of crenelated scales. Measuring 2 inches across and 6 mm deep, he is a substantial piece of jade.
    • The dragon, important in Chinese culture, symbolizes the Emperor and his power and playfulness. But it also stands for the universal source of energy, known as “Chi”. The Bi disc is an emblem of longevity and harmony.
    • All three strands feed into two handmade, fair trade, sterling silver beads (14 mm) made by the Karen hill tribes in Thailand.
    • A handmade, sterling silver toggle clasp, which has also been crafted by the Karen hill tribes of twisted silver wires, has been used because toggle clasps are easy to use and secure. My silver name label is attached at the clasp.
    • The necklace comes, like all my necklaces, with its own colour co-ordinated silk brocaded pouch bag, made by a Shanghai tailor.
    • The necklace is 16 inches long (40.5 cm) with a 2 inch pendant drop (5 cm).

Vintage Natural Turquoise Fish on Necklace of Sterling Silver, Natural Turquoise and Aventurine

    • But there are two stars to this necklace. Placed on one side of the necklace is a vintage, natural turquoise Chinese pendant bead of a carved fish, swimming among lotus pods and fronds. This is quite deep and detailed carving, which goes through to the other side of the pendant. The fish is lively and an emblem of prosperity, while the lotus symbolizes harmony and purity. The piece measure 1 ¼ inches long (3 cm), 1 inch wide (2.5 cm) and 13 mm deep.
    • It is bordered by the two carved, aventurine melon beads and two, handmade, fair trade, sterling silver beads (15 mm) made by the Karen hill tribes of Thailand.
